Interior Trends We Expect to See Everywhere This Summer

Summer is almost here, and as the sunshine-filled days begin, so will the conveyor belt of seasonal trends. This year, we predict that playful prints embodying the fun of summer will take centre stage, panels will make their way from inside the home to the outdoors, and, of course, a new 'core' aesthetic will emerge.

How to Incorporate Polka Dots in the Home

This summer will see the return of polka dots in homes. A pattern that flits in and out of trend cycles and has been doing so for decades, polka dots have already made their way into the fashion world for the season.

Polka dot is a playful pattern that can be added to a room as subtle or bold as you choose. Whether it’s through small soft furnishing like cushions or blankets, or a large full sized rug that will become the star of the room.

Polka dot may seem like a difficult pattern to integrate into existing décor, but the variation of colour combinations and sizes make it a universal choice that will add quirky charm to the room.

Garden panels

It was only a matter of time before panels – that have become a staple in most homes – made their way into outdoor gardens and patios.

External panels are versatile, as they can be attached to fences that would be costly to replace, used to conceal pebble dash, or added purely for decorative purposes. The wood effect of the panels can give a mostly concrete yard the illusion of nature, bringing a touch of the countryside to urban city living.

Mismatch metallics

Forget the made-up rule that one particular metallic is trendier than another. Every year, it’s suggested that one is more desirable than the rest — a prime example being the shift from brass to chrome, which is becoming a common narrative in trend cycles.

Homes don’t need to feature the same metallic finish in every room for the sake of continuity, and they don’t need to match within a single room either, as mixing metallics can work just as well.

What is Château-core?

Step aside, cottage-core— château-core is taking over, with 'French cottage décor' now among the top-searched phrases.

This trend blends characterful country style with classic ornate elements, featuring ruffled furnishings, neutral linens, botanical prints, and gilded decorative items, creating a home that feels as though it’s nestled in the tranquil French countryside.

Terrazzo

As colourful and bold bathroom styles from the past continue to inspire, we predict that terrazzo will make a huge comeback. While not as striking as primary colours, terrazzo is still full of personality. It is a fun yet classic choice that gives a bathroom a bold appearance without the risk of becoming outdated once the retro trend fades.

Terrazzo is a mixture of marble, glass, granite or quartz, with its origins in ancient Egyptian mosaics. It gained popularity in the 16th century and is visually non-uniform due to the way it is made, which adds to its unique charm.

Because of its composite nature and the materials used, terrazzo can be expensive and require regular upkeep because of protruding natural stone. This is why panels that replicate terrazzo are a great alternative, offering the same look at a lower cost without the need for ongoing maintenance.
