Designing a dog grooming studio should be exciting and memorable. Your dream career has come true, and the milestone of creating a room for your business is now a reality.
There are a multitude of aesthetics to choose from and be inspired by for your dog grooming parlour. You want to style your business to reflect your personal tastes.
Whether you’re envisioning a modern, rustic, or playful theme, the key to designing a dog grooming studio is to prioritise practicality. Something that was at the forefront of Alesha’s renovation process when turning a worn-out room into Alesha’s Dog PET Services.
Before and After Transformation of Alesha’s Dog PET Services
“Growing up, I had a very timid, knot-prone dog, and watching my mum attempt her own version of 'dog grooming' definitely sparked something in me,” explains Alesha Curtis.
She started her career in dog grooming in 2019 as a trainee and decided to create her very own business in July 2022.
With the mantra “no dog is bad — they just need the right person to help guide them” at the heart of her business, it was Alesha’s childhood dog that helped her to “develop a real understanding of how important calmness and patience are, especially around nervous or reactive dogs.”
After three years of renting another groomer's space, Alesha dreamt of designing her own dog grooming parlour. “I wanted my own space to look, feel, and function — especially when it came to keeping on top of dog hair,” she recalls.
With practically at the forefront of her mind for her very first workspace, Alesha decided to use PVC wall panels to create a room that was easy to clean and maintain after a long day of grooming.

Colour Scheme Ideas for a Dog Grooming Studio
Vibrant and Colourful
Although dogs can’t see a full spectrum of colours and are limited to shades of brown, yellow, blue, and grey, this shouldn’t stop you from designing a vibrant dog grooming parlour.
Using a rainbow colour scheme can help your parlour stand out—both to passers-by who may become customers and through eye-catching social media posts. Primary colours are often associated with fun and energy, making your parlour feel inviting and a place where people are happy to leave their beloved pets.

Rustic Woodland Inspired
Take inspiration from woodlands for a room that feels calming and nature-inspired. To maximise floor space for shelving, grooming tables, and baths, focus your attention on decorating the walls to achieve this aesthetic.

You can use greens, browns, and neutral colours or add wood-effect panels to really lean into the aesthetic.
Modern and Neutral
Choose monochromatic panelling in classic patterns and textures to design a modern dog grooming parlour.

There are various styles to choose from, like tile, marble, or stone effect. This will create a neutral backdrop to complement the rest of the room, no matter your design choices.
Lighting for a Dog Grooming Studio
Bright overhead lighting is essential in a dog parlour to ensure visibility during an appointment.
However, if the parlour has a separate waiting room, warming lighting will create a more pleasurable experience as it will be less clinical. The key is to find the balance between visibility, as you want owners collecting their pets to be able see the noticeable difference in their dog after the appointment, but also do not want the lighting to feel harsh.
A fun idea is to set up a photoshoot backdrop to capture transformation photographs for clients or to build a portfolio. These images will capture the difference your grooming services make and act as marketing material for your business.
The key to designing a room with longevity is combining functionality and personality; you want the design to feel like you, but also serve its purpose. You can decorate the walls with fun artwork, but make it easy to take down if you need to deep clean the wall behind it. Ensure the room has floor space for equipment, but consider sacrificing some of that workspace for furniture so that clients who want to discuss appointments can sit down.
Ultimately, designing your very own dog grooming parlour should be fun. It’s a milestone achievement and will become a room where you hone your craft, and connect with your clients – especially the four-legged ones.
